Mr. Darin Slethaug’s lecture explores the meaning and practice of international education in today’s interconnected world. Drawing on over 20 years of leadership experience in Hong Kong’s diverse international school system, Mr. Darin Slethaug will examine how international education goes beyond academic learning to cultivate global citizenship, ethical awareness, and social responsibility. He will share practical approaches to building values-based school cultures, designing service-led learning programs, and supporting students to become thoughtful, compassionate, and active global citizens. The session will also reflect on challenges and opportunities in balancing international perspectives with local contexts, offering insights for educators, leaders, and parents invested in future-ready, holistic education.
主讲人简介:
Darin Slethaug is a veteran educator and senior leader with over two decades of dedicated experience shaping international education in Hong Kong. He currently serves as Vice Principal at South Island School, part of the English Schools Foundation (ESF)—the largest English-medium international education provider in East Asia, with 22 schools and more than 18,000 students from over 75 nationalities. Since relocating to Hong Kong in 1997, Darin has been a strong advocate for holistic education. He holds degrees from Queen’s University, the University of Western Ontario, and a Master of Education in Educational Leadership from the University of Hong Kong. With a solid academic and professional foundation, he has led numerous strategic initiatives focused on values-driven education and character development. At South Island School, Darin spearheads flagship programs including Values in Action and Expanding Horizons, guided by the philosophy of “Making a Difference.” He emphasizes service learning, community engagement, and social responsibility, inspiring students to develop empathy, moral integrity, and a lifelong commitment to positive contribution.
